A few residents staying in Eden Hall Apartments in Jayamahal were provided police protection on Wednesday after they were threatened by a socialite and her business partner.

The socialite and her partner, Madhuri Hingorani and Jaggy Dhariwal, allegedly threatened the residents of dire consequences for complaining against Energie Inc., a beauty parlour and spa, the duo had been operating from the residential complex.

The officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike had on Tuesday morning sealed the spa, in accordance with a high court directive. Hingorani and Dhariwal, however, broke the seal the same evening, and threatened the residents who had complained against the spa for creating nuisance in the locality.

JC Nagar police inspector Tanveer Ahmed confirmed the incident. “The BBMP officials sealed the spa for creating nuisance. Some of the residents came seeking protection and we have provided the same.”

“On Tuesday around 9.30 am, BBMP officials put a seal on the spa run by Madhuri Hingorani and her partner Jaggy Dhariwal in our apartment. The couple broke open the seal by 4.30 pm and questioned all of us for complaining to the BBMP. They threatened us of dire consequences for doing the same,” Vinay Naresh Kamath, a resident, said in a complaint lodged with the police.

Kamath was provided police protection following the threat.

When contacted, Hingorani refused to comment, saying the issue was a “private affair between the complainant and me.”

“I do not wish to comment on this as it is a private affair between the complainant and me,” she said, adding that she would take the allegations in her stride.

A BBMP official said the civic body had earlier granted a conditional licence for the spa.

The licence was granted on the condition that it will be revoked in case the residents object to the functioning of spa in the residential space. The spa created nuisance and the licence was cancelled after the residents objected to it. But Madhuri reopened the spa without renewing the licence, by getting a stay order from the court,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

The spa’s clientele, however, turned out to be a nuisance for the residents of Eden Hall. The residents again complained to the BBMP.

“Eight of them (the residents) approached us with the complaint against the parlour. Madhuri tried to use her influence to allow her continue with the business. However, the High Court has recently dismissed her plea to allow her continue the parlour. The court also objected to commercial activities being carried out in a residential area. The high court had directed us to take action according to the law and sent a report,” the BBMP official said.

The palike sealed the spa based on the high court order.
