Lok Ayukta sleuths raided the properties of two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officials — including former BBMP commissioner Siddaiah — and another official on Tuesday and seized unaccounted wealth worth over Rs5.88 crore from them.

The operation came just weeks after Siddaiah was ousted from the civic body. Ironically, Siddaiah was the one who unearthed the multi-crore bogus bill scam and handed over the probe to the police.

While the other IAS official, MA Sadiq, is at the fag end of his career, the third official, MV Veerabhadraiah, was expecting his promotion to IAS from KAS cadre.

Lok Ayukta additional director-general of police (ADGP) HN Satyanarayana Rao said the raids were conducted based on information provided by various sources about the three possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. “We have slapped disproportionate assets cases against Siddaiah, managing director of Karnataka Neeravari Nigama MA Sadiq and deputy general manager of Krishna Uppar Krishna Project MV Veerabharaiah. As many as 14 premises were raided in Bangalore, Harohalli Bagalkot, Davanagere and Kalaghatagi,” Rao said.

But Siddaiah’s family members termed the raids as “politically-motivated”. His brother and former zilla panchayat president, Nagraj, alleged that the raids were carried on political vendetta.

“My brother had taken on the government over the `1500-crore BBMP multi-crore tender scam and even confronted the authorities over Sanjana’s death. This has irked the state government.”

Rao said that the officials searched 14 properties — six belonged to Siddaiah, five of Sadiq and Veerabhadraiah, three. “The three had not declared the confiscated movable and immovable properties during their annual asset declaration. This is the base of our investigation,” Rao said.
