Short film club, Shamiana launched in Bangalore

Film enthusiasts, aspiring filmmakers and all those interested in the medium, here's a new venture that holds exciting potential. Shamiana, a short film club, was launched in Bangalore on Sunday.

Cyrus Dastur, who founded Shamiana in Mumbai 2008, said, “We are thrilled to launch a chapter in Bangalore, and we hope that more films from the city will be screened, and that more people will be encouraged to make films here.”
The club already has chapters in Mumbai, New Delhi, Goa, Baroda, Ahmedabad and Pune.

At the inauguration of the Bangalore chapter, eight short films were screened at Counter Culture, Whitefield. Among the films were Road Rage from Australia, directed by Mark Bellamy and Aasai (wish) a Tamil film by Sam which was in the running for the national awards in 2005.

Sintel, an animation film by Colin Levy from the Netherlands, was the story of a young girl on a long and dangerous quest to save her best friend, a little dragon. A short film on HIV/AIDS funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was also screened. The film’s script was by Matthew Robbins.

Three films made by Bangaloreans - Do I by Vikram Ahuja, The Savage Cry by Pavan K and a preview of The Other Side by Abhinav Kamal — were also screened at the event. The screenings were followed by a performance by Anand and Dave, who sang and played the guitar and mouth organ.
