Shivaratri revisited Belgaum on Friday night as people gave up their sleep to soak in the cultural extravaganza. Sandalwood stars descended on the city and enthralled one and all, all night long.

It was 3am on Saturday, but the over 50,000-strong crowd was not ready to leave the ground. They cheered and wanted more of their favourite icons.

For the first time, the Kannada film industry had showed such unity in participating in the event for the cause of Kannada. Through this they sent a strong message across — do not neglect Kannada movies.

Under the leadership of music director Hamsalekaha, Sandalwood stars performed a mélange of cultural programmes for over three hours enthralling the audience. Film stars presented cultural events under the banner Chandanavana (Sandalwood).

The event kicked off at 11pm and went on till 3am.

Shivrajkumar danced with ‘power star’ Punith Rajkumar and Ramesh Aravind to the tunes of Kaliyoke Kotibashe adoke onde Bashe. They also performed on Nammaabhimana song, composed by Hamsalekha while the composer and music director Manohar Jugalbandhi lauded the performance.

Later, the audience was treated with a performance by Naveen Krishna and Tarun Sudhir. Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, Infosys foundation president Sudha Murthy and other VIPs also enjoyed the all-night cultural fest. Actress Anu Parabhakar danced to the song A a e e Kannada akshara male along with senior actor Ramakrishna. Not to be left behind, ‘Golden Star’ Ganesh danced on a remix song Tinnoke Belgaum kunda, nodoke jalapata chanda. Bharathi Vishnuvardhana also had a dance performance.

Thereafter, comedians Rangayana Raghu, Sadhu Kokila and Bullet Prakash danced to Kuladialli kilyavudo Huchchappa. Senior actress Leelavathi and his son ‘Dance King’ Vinod Raj, Murali, Vijay Raghavendra, ‘Crazy Star’ Ravichandran, ‘Super Star’

Upendra, Srinagara Kitti, Pooja Gandhi and others hits the stage. Finally, actor Darshan presented a skit on Kittur Rani Chennamma and Sangolli Rayanna. When Huttidare kannadanadalli huttabeku played, Yeddyurappa joined the stars and audience to dance with them.
