A class VIII student, Bharath V, 14, committed suicide in Doddanagamangala on Thursday. He was upset over his parents comparing his academic record with that of his younger sister. Bharath used a dupatta to hang himself from a ceiling fan, at 6.30pm.  Bharath had a weak academic record and his parents allegedly used to compare Bharath with his sister Sona, who had a strong academic record; she is in class VI. Sona used to help Bharath in his studies and explain
concepts.

On Wednesday, Bharath was studying for an exam and sought Sona’s help. His parents exhorted him to put in additional effort and challenged him to perform well without consulting Sona.

Bharath did not attend school after his parents left home for work on Thursday and committed suicide. His father Venkataraju is a tailor and mother Vatsala works in a garment factory.

The body has been handed over to the family after postmortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered in Parappana Agrahara police station.
