Sadananda Gowda’s maiden visit to his home district after assuming charge as Chief Minister promises to be a fraught one. There are disgruntled murmurs over his choice of ministers.

This weekend, Gowda is set to visit the RSS headquarters in Mangalore and the Sri Rama High School at Kalladka in Buntwal taluk, run by Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, a Sangh Parivar leader.

On Saturday, the chief minister will visit his native village, Mandekolu.

Sangh Parivar leaders who have mentored Gowda now have a string of questions.

“We are surprised at the induction of Varthur Prakash. He is not a BJP MLA. CP Yogishwar has been charged by the Criminal Investigation Department of cheating. Renukachaya’s escapade with the nurse is still fresh in public memory, and Parivar leaders had objected to his presence in the Yeddyurappa cabinet,” said Govinda Kekunnaya, a leader of the Sangh Parivar from the region.

That, however, was not all Kekunnaya was complaining about: “Bachche Gowda’s episode of slapping a citizen for overtaking his convoy was an offence. Somanna’s name has featured in the Lokayukta report for aiding his sons in illegal mining. We expect the BJP government to have people with a clean image. At least now, so soon after the mining muddle has taken a toll,” said Kekunnaya.

Bhaskar Nayak, a VHP leader, said, “It is time the BJP showed that the party can do without tainted MLAs in the  cabinet. The state BJP has received a severe jolt. Sadananda Gowda has a clean image, but the return of tainted ministers is cause for concern.”

K Rama Bhat Urimajalu, mentor of Sadananda Gowda, said, “It is time the BJP  started acting on the mandate given to it by the Sangh Parivar. To some extent, the Narendra Modi government in Gujarat has worked towards the ‘Akhand Bharat. If Gowda does not use the training offered to him by the Sangh, there would be no difference between him and other ordinary politicians. I think Gowda’s hands were forced.”

The Sangh Parivar leadership makes no bones that the Gowda cabinet is being watched, by ‘Big Brother’.
