A 35-year-old Ayurveda doctor allegedly jumped to her death from the fifth floor of her apartment building in Prashanthnagar near Vijayanagar on Monday morning.

The deceased, Dr S Roopa, a resident of Brundavan apartments in Sampige Layout, was divorced from her marriage of 11 years, two months ago, and was staying alone in the fourth floor apartment since six months.

According to witnesses, Roopa had gone to the fifth floor of the apartment and jumped from the balcony. A security guard on duty at the apartment had heard a loud noise and rushed to the spot to find Roopa lying dead on the ground.

Roopa was married to Lokesh, an employee at a private bank, and had two children from the marriage. The couple is said to have frequently quarrelled and Roopa’s brother, S Rajiv, told the police that she wasn’t happy with her married life. Rajiv suspected foul play in the death.

Roopa was planning to marry businessman and long time friend Anil Kumar. Police said the apartment Roopa was staying at was supposedly purchased under her name but as the wife of Arun Kumar while she was still married to Lokesh.

Preliminary forensic reports concluded that her body bore no external injuries and doctors said her death was due to severe internal bleeding due to the fall. A police officer said she had not left any suicide note.
