Congress youth icon Rahul Gandhi is expected to arrive in Bangalore on April 20 or 21 to lift the sagging morale of the state Congress even as the internal bickerings in the state unit is showing signs of erupting into the open.

Huge discontentment is brewing in the principal opposition party of the state after the reconstitution of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), forcing state unit chief G Parameshwar to convene a meeting of office-bearers on Monday to douse the simmering revolt.

Leader of the opposition Siddaramaiah, who has expressed his displeasure at the lack of representation for some of the backward castes in the reconstituted committee, is expected to stay away from Monday’s meeting to be held at KPCC office.

“No representation has been given for leaders from marginalised backward castes like Dhobis, Upparas, Kumbaras, Ganigas and Savita Samaja in the committee which has been reconstituted after 12 years. Surprisingly not a single person among the 15 persons suggested by Siddaramaiah has been accommodated,” said a senior Congress leader, who alleged that it was a deliberate move to thwart the rise of Siddaramaiah’s stature in the party.

The number of KPCC members has been raised from the earlier 50 to 106. However the group which has raised its voice of dissent sees unfairly huge representation for those owing allegiance to Union minister SM Krishna.“We had expected a fair choice with representation for all the marginalised backward castes, but it has been filled with Krishna loyalists. We did not expect this from Parameshwar. Of the 106 office-bearers 22 are not even PCC members. Many of them are just close friends or associates of a few leaders,” fumed another leader, a strong supporter of Siddaramaiah.

Meanwhile, Parameshwar has convened a meeting of KPCC office-bearers on Monday to effect a rapproachment. “I am confident of sorting out the issue at the meeting on Monday. A fair representation for all the communities will be ensured,” Parameshwar said.
