The additional deputy commissioner of Mysore district has been directed to inquire into the case of a sugarcane farmer who committed suicide in Sagare village.

Shekar in Heggadadevanakote of Sagare village in Mysore district had committed suicide on last Saturday.

District in-charge minister of Mysore district, SA Ramadas, on Wednesday visited the family of Shekar and assured them of all help.

The government will release Rs1 lakh compensation on Thursday and order the sugar mill to pay a compensation of Rs4 lakh to the family immediately. “The sugar mill should have taken immediate steps to lift the crop as promised,” the minister said.

Shekar had taken the extreme decision after a local sugar mill failed to lift his crop and pay him the money.
