Though the police have received details of the persons involved in the murder of corporator S Nataraj, they’re yet to ascertain the murder motive. Interestingly, the information gathered so far does not implicate Bomb Naga, who was widely believed to be the mastermind. The police are not completely ruling out his involvement. A senior police officer said: “We have information about the persons involved in the murder. It is too early to rule out Bomb Naga’s involvement in Nataraj’s murder.”

This information was given by the person who was taken into custody on Saturday. He was under the influence of alcohol when he was detained; hence he could not be interrogated, said sources.

But on Monday, he was sober and began spilling the beans. A native of Koppa, Chikmagalur, he hails from Tamil Nadu. He named six people involved in executing the murder. “We know who these six persons are, but they have to be arrested,” said an officer. Sources said the six people have been taken into custody and interrogated at a secret location. But they are not providing substantial information, and are resorting to providing different names and attributing different reasons for the murder.

One of the detained persons reportedly said while they do not know who hatched the plot, their associates did receive money to kill Nataraj.

Nataraj’s attackers are suspected to be a gang from Bagalagunte in Bangalore. But the police are yet to confirm the attackers’ identities and the money they received. “We are exploring three reasons as probable motives for the murder; it will be confirmed once we arrest the persons involved in the attack,” said the police.

The cellphone retrieved from the crime scene provided some information, said an officer. Many SIM cards were and only a few calls could be traced, said the police.
