He used to commit burglaries when the occupants were in the house, managed to avoid being caught and injuring anyone.
The longingness to see his newborn baby landed a notorious criminal behind bars—he went to a hospital to see his bundle of joy but was nabbed by the police, who were preying for him there.
An HAL police team travelled to Kerala and arrested the accused, Syed Moula.
PS Harsha, deputy commissioner of police (south-east), said that Moula, 30, was arrested in Wayanad district in Kerala. He said with Moula’s arrest, police have solved 11 cases and recovered stolen items worth Rs12 lakh. The recovered items include 450 gm gold jewellery and other valuables.
Moula, a resident of Mysore, was allegedly involved in cases of burglary in Bangalore, Mysore, Gundupet and Kerala. He was earlier arrested on charges of similar offences but was released on bail.
Recently, a theft case was registered against him in HAL police station. The fingerprint from the crime scene matched Moula’s.
The police had launched a manhunt but Moula managed to evade arrest.
A team headed by HAL police station inspector C Balakrishna rushed to Kerala after gaining information that the accused was planning to meet his wife and newborn baby in a hospital in Sultan Bathery. The police spotted Moula as he was entering the hospital and nabbed him.
He confessed to committing crime in the limits of HAL and other police stations. Investigation revealed that Moula had given the stolen items to his brother for disposal.
“We have launched a manhunt to arrest Moula’s brother. We can recover more items once we arrest him,” said an investigative officer.
The police said that Moula meticulously committed burglaries, targeting houses at night. Most of them were executed when the occupants were inside the house.
“He never made noise while committing burglaries,” said R Ashok, assistant commissioner of police (Airport sub-division). There were instances when occupants woke up when he entered the house.
The police said that Moula managed to avoid being caught and never hurt families while committing the burglaries.
The police also said that Moula was a resident of Vidyaranyapura in Bangalore before his family shifted to Mysore. His wife is a native of Sultan Bathery.
