No bail to Abdul Nasser Madani in Bangalore serial blasts’ case

The high court of Karnataka on Friday rejected the bail plea filed by Abdul Nasser Madani, arrested in connection with the 2008 serial blasts in Bangalore.

Justice V Jagganathan rejected bail since the state government had submitted evidence of Madani’s involvement in the conspiracy.

The court also considered that granting bail to the leader of Kerala’s People’s Democratic Party may lead witnesses getting threatened and the possible tampering with evidence.

The court observed that the prosecution had placed certain material suggesting that Madani had already tampered with evidence. “All facts are coupled with the gravity of offence and hence, in the interest of the state, the bail cannot be granted,” the court ruled.

The single judge asked jail authorities to take care of the petitioner and provide him medical assistance, since he suffered poor health.

The crime branch police had named Madani as 31st accused in the July 25, 2008 blasts which left a woman dead and injured several others. He was arrested on August 17, 2010 from Kollam in Kerala. Madani moved the bail application on December 13, 2010.
