The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike is all set to launch a massive cleanliness drive to make a city a cleaner, greener space. On March 19, from 10pm to 4am, the BBMP will take up a massive programme in 60 sub-zones.

Tractors will be provided, and workers and staff from the BBMP’s health, horticulture and forest departments will be involved in the drive.

Mud and stones dumped on footpath will be cleared, and mosquito-breeding spots will be dealt with. Dried branches of trees will also be removed.

BBMP commissioner Siddaiah, on Friday inspected spots in Rajajinagar, Prakashnagar, Manjunathanagar, Malleswaram, Kurubarahalli, Sriramamandira and other places.

He visited Gayatri Park at Prakashnagar (ward no 98) and received complaints from the public. He directed the horticulture officer to create a walker’s pathway in the park, and provide for an organic manure unit and proper lighting within the park. He warned that action would be taken against officials found to be tardy in their work.

On an inspection of the Krathiveera Sangoli Rayanna park at Rajajinagar 2nd Block, Siddaiah found that the play equipment meant for children had not been well-maintained.

The commissioner visited a playground at Milk Colony, which had been under litigation. The Supreme Court had ruled that the 12-acre playground was the property of the BBMP.

The commissioner directed officials to take up the development of the playground, and provide space for planting trees. He also instructed that the playground be fenced.
