Nature’s call proves fatal for Anekal youth

A 20-year-old youth was electrocuted on Sunday in Anekal while crossing a fence, which had a live wire passing through it, to attend nature’s call.

The victim is identified as Vinod Venkatesh, a BA graduate and resident of Marasuru village in Anekal, Bangalore Rural. The incident occurred early in the morning and came to light only when the youth’s parents went in search of him.

Calling it an act of negligence by some construction worker who had taken electricity from a pole allowing the live wire to pass through the fence, about 200 villagers staged a protest before the construction site till late 3pm. They demanded a compensation of Rs10 lakh as Vinod was the only son of his parents. Lakshamma and Venkatesh, the parents of Vinod, are agriculturists.

According to the police, Narayana Hrudalaya is constructing a residential quarters in the vicinity.

The villagers usually go near the Bandapura lake to attend nature’s call every morning. Like always, Vinod around 7:30 am on Sunday was trying to cross the fence and accidentally came in contact with the live wire passing through it. When Vinod did not return home, his parents went in search of him and found his body near the fence.

Later in the afternoon, NP Venkaraju, the taluk tahsildar, visited the spot along with officials of Anekal police and Bescom. It was confirmed that Vinod was electrocuted. A case of negligence has been registered at the Anekal police station against the construction workers. Investigation is on.
