Bangalore witnessed the hottest day on May 6 when mercury levels soared to 34.8 degrees Centigrade. Thankfully, the pre-monsoon showers brought some relief for people during this summer.

The weather department said this was the highest temperature recorded this summer. The department did not expect temperatures to go up any further although it did not completely rule out the possibility of mercury soaring in the coming days. It expects the temperature to fluctuate between 33 degrees centigrade and 34 degrees centigrade during the day and remain steady around 20 degrees centigrade during night.
Pre-monsoon showers hit Karnataka from the second week of May.

According to forecasts by the Indian Metereological Department (IMD) in New Delhi on May 13, monsoon is likely to hit Kerala between May 31 and June 3.

Although no predictions have been made for Karnataka, going by what happened last year, the IMD expects monsoon to hit South Karnataka by June 3 or June 4. However, the city will not get a pounding. Instead, it will witness moderate rains from June to the end of August.

“The showers are only expected in the coastal regions of Karnataka and not in Bangalore. Some showers will bring relief to people from the summer heat  this month and in September when monsoon returns from north and north east,” said an official.

However, the current weather conditions will continue.
“After light showers in the noons and evenings, the temperature will drop by 10
degrees, which will bring some relief to residents,” said B Puttanna, director, IMD Karnataka.
