Their blue Reva got crushed beyond recognition under a fully-loaded lorry,  and it took a good 65 minutes to pull them out of the mangled chunk of iron. But the two inmates of the car, luckily, survived.

Ajay, 50, and Ramakrishna Reddy, 40, must thank their stars for surviving such a horrible accident that occurred around 6.15pm on Monday near the Hoskerehalli signal here. The lorry, which was hurtling towards the Reva, suffered a brake failure and climbed on the tiny car, crushing it completely. Both the passengers sustained injuries but escaped death, the police said.

Commuters tried to help the police to move the lorry and bring the injured out of the crushed car, but their efforts failed. Finally, they were rescued with the help of JCB and taken to the BGS Global Hospital. Ajay sustained minor injuries, while Reddy fractured his leg.

As huge crowds gathered around the accident spot, police had to resort to mild lathi-charge to control them. Police said both the car and lorry were heading towards Banashankari from Mysore Road and the road was narrow.
