The police swooped down on an illegally organised party and arrested 34 persons, including 14 women, from a guesthouse in Guttepalya village, off Doddaballapur Road near Nelamangala, on Thursday night.

The police have registered cases under the Excise Act against the revellers for stocking liquor without licence and serving it beyond the time-limit specified, and indulging in obscene acts.

The police have seized Rs50,000 cash, a cache of liquor and musical equipment from the spot.

However, there were no narcotics found at the venue. Loud music was also being played at the party.

When the police raided the spot, some of the revellers tried to escape. But the police managed to catch them.

Those arrested were produced at the Nelamangala Magistrate court, which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days. They have been sent to Parappana Agrahara central jail.

Acting on a tip-off, Nelamangala police of Bangalore Rural district conducted the raid on the guesthouse , situated in Aishwarya County Layout, Nelamangala, at 11:50pm and found women dancing in an obscene manner. They suspect that the women might have been earlier employed by dance bars, which were shut down by the police.

The women hail from New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal, said Dr S Prakash, circle inspector, Nelamangala police.

Only two of the 20 men arrested were below 30 years of age, said the police. They hail from Bangalore and Mangalore. “The guesthouse  was used to organise parties on earlier occasions as well. It is only this time that we came to know about it. When we raided the spot, we found women dancing in an obscene manner in the company of older men,” said Chinnaswamy, deputy superintendent of police, Nelamangala sub-division.

Investigation revealed that the party was organised by Sathish, who used to work in dance bars earlier.

“We received the information that the dance bars have moved to rural areas after the strict ban on them in the city. We collected the information and raided the party,” a senior police officer said.
