You will be able to watch the Metro Rail in action from January 24 onwards for 15 days during its trial runs which will be conducted on Namma Metro’s Reach One track from Byappanahalli to MG Road.

This was announced by chief minister BS Yeddyurappa at the inauguration of Sri GR Vishwanath underpass in JP Nagar’s 15th Cross on Tuesday.

Yeddyurappa will himself inspect the project on January 24 along with“some high-profile guests” before taking a ride on the trial run, a Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official told DNA.

“Work is going on at a fast pace and we will start the trial runs on Reach One from January 24 for the 15 days. The government has spent Rs2,600 crore from its pockets for this project up till now,” Yeddyurappa said. However, the commuters will not be able to enjoy the ride until the end of March.

In order to meet the deadline, works on the platforms have been speeded up. BMRCL has completed laying the third rail all along the Reach One track, parallel to the Metro Rail tracks, to provide the train its electric power of 750 kilo volts which will power the train to run the entire stretch of 7.2 km.

This is a unique feature not found even with the Delhi Metro Rail.

BMRCL officials said that on January 23 the power would be switched on and the train will run briefly to check whether the power systems are working fine. However, this exercise will not be considered as a trial run for the train, but only for the power systems.

Track works on Reach One are complete but works on the stations – like fittings of automatic fare collecting gates, ticketing counters and other systems – are going on.

While the work on the foot over-bridge on MG Road station near Plaza Theatre has started, the girders for the skywalk across Swami Vivekananda Road (adjacent to Isolation Hospital) to the first floor of the Swami Vivekananda station is being readied.

The structure of the foot over bridge to the SV Road station will be put up in a few days after the columns are built, officials said.
