One more criminal case has been registered against notorious rowdy-sheeter Sheikh Mohammed Asgar alias Mahim, 41, alleged to be involved in the murder of Banashankari temple ward corporator Diwana Ali alias Mohammed Ali.

The police are also preparing documents to book Mahim under the Goonda Act.

According to the police, Mahim was nabbed on Thursday night by the central crime branch (CCB) police along with three of his gang members.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Mahim wanted to eliminate Khalimulla Khan, the complainant in the Diwana murder case. In his complaint, Khan had accused Mahim of perpetrating the murder. Akbar Ali, Diwan’s brother, too was on Mahim’s hit-list.

Joint commissioner of police (crime) Alok Kumar said that a CCB team raided a mango grove in Kanakapura Road, based on a tip-off. Besides Mahim, three others identified as Salim Pasha alias Pasha alias Langad Salim, 32, Mohammed Pasha alias Mohammed, 38, Mohammed Javid alias Javid, 37, were arrested from the spot.

Two others identified as Nasru, 32 and Mohammed Kabir, 35, both residents of Siddapur, managed to flee. The police seized a car, mobile phones and lethal weapons from them.

However, another version said that Mahim surrendered before an inspector of South division on Wednesday, followed by three of his associates on Thursday.

Mahim, who was absconding since the murder of Diwana, was roaming in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra and other states. He stayed in Mumbai for a brief period, according to the police.
