The food and civil supplies department is working towards an error-free compilation of data to weed out bogus ration cards in the state.

“We require 10 more days to finish the data entry process and we do not want any mistakes. It has to be a zero-error data entry process,” said BA Harish Gowda, secretary of the department.

He announced that once the data base is created, the department will publish the list of those defaulters who failed to furnish the documents like ration cards, electricity bills and LPG consumer numbers.

“There are people who are still coming with documents and we are not sending them back. But they must furnish the relevant documents. After the data base is created, we will publish the list of defaulters on our website and give it to gas agencies and fair price shops,” said Gowda.

On March 1, the department officials claimed that 60% of the data entry work was done and it would be completed in a week. However, till Monday evening, only 70% of the work has been through.

On Monday, DNA received several phone calls and mails from LPG consumers who wanted to know whether they would lose their LPG supply if they did not possess ration cards.

“The department is scrutinising each data furnished to them. Once the data base is created, we will analyse each case and send out our inspection teams,” Gowda said.

All LPG consumers must produce photocopies of their electricity bills and LPG consumer numbers which are compulsory documents to be checked by the department, he added.
