LPG consumers whose connections have been suspended following their failure to produce address proof or have produced faulty documents flocked to the PSU gas agencies on Friday to know why they had to pay the price for what they claimed was not their mistake.

The agencies, however, washed their hands of, saying that only the state food and civil supplies department could help the consumers.

On Thursday, the food and civil supplies department published on its website the list of LPG defaulters across the state.

The department also recommended suspension of at least 9.1 lakh LPG connections in the city. The corresponding number for the entire state was 34.05 lakh.

At least 50 angry citizens rushed to an LPG agency in Chamrajpet early on Friday and took the staff to task.

“I have submitted all the documents the department had asked for and now when I made a booking for an LPG refill, the gas agency denied it saying that I have not submitted the documents and my gas connection had been suspended,” Ramesh Chandrakanth, a consumer, said

“How can the website show that my LPG refill has been suspended because I have not produced documents? I did present all my documents personally,” said Palaniyamma, another consumer who was denied a refill.

CH Bhagya, a government official, said that she was asked to go to the food and civil supplies department. She said she had submitted all the papers and yet her connection had been suspended.

“Food and civil supplies officials in the Chamarajpet office asked me to go to my fair price depot to submit the papers. I ran to my fair price depot, where I was told that they had received no instruction on the issue.”

Several gas agencies in the city reported a huge rush of the consumers who had seen the department notification in the paper and wanted to know the fate of their connections.
