Lok ayukta sleuths catch the corrupt at 5 am in Karnataka

The lok ayukta sleuths conducted simultaneous raids on five commercial tax check-posts and one RTO check-post in the wee hours of Saturday and arrested 13 persons, including 10 government officials, seizing Rs95,260 in cash.

The raid was conducted at check-posts of commercial tax at Nelamangala, Hoskote, Attibele Bagepalli and RTO check post at Attibele.

The lok ayukta police said that they had received series of complaints about bribe being collected from vehicle-owners and drivers by the officials of various check-posts under the Bangalore Rural and Chikkaballapur districts.

Five teams were formed to conduct raids at the same time in Bangalore and another team formed by Chikkaballapur district lok ayukta. The lok ayukta deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Pranab Mohanty guided the teams to conduct the raid at 5 am.

The teams have arrested 10 officials, three middlemen and seized the illegal money from them. The team seized Rs41,318 from Nelamangala commercial tax check-post. They arrested four persons who are commercial tax officers, Holeyappa and Rama, and two private agents Subbegowda and Galappa. Criminal cases have been registered against them.

Another team seized Rs8,500 from Hoskote commercial tax check-post and arrested two persons.

The accused have been identified as commercial tax officer Jayanth Kumar and clerk N Chandrasekhar. Criminal cases have also been registered against these two persons.

A team which raided the Attibele commercial tax check post has seized Rs28,685 from the check post and arrested four persons. The arrested persons have been identified as commercial tax officer S Ravi Shankar, commercial tax inspector Rudresh, D-group employee Rajashekaraiah and private agent Yogesh.

Another team raided it’s outpost in Attibele which found an unaccounted amount of Rs1,995 and recovered it from commercial tax officer Siddesh Kumar. A departmental inquiry will be recommended against him.

The sleuths also conducted a raid on Attibele regional transport office (RTO) check post. The police found a difference of Rs5672 in the fine amount collected at the check post. Disciplinary proceedings will be carried out against Syed Rasul, senior officer and others for dereliction of duty.

Chikkaballapur Lokayukta police team conducted raid at Bagepalli commercial tax check post and ¤9,090 was seized from there.
Three persons identified as commercial tax officer Ravi Prakash, clerk Muniyappa and D-group employee Ramakrishna were arrested.

A case has been registered against them

The lok ayukta police said that all six teams conducted a raid at once at 5 am at all check-posts. At many places, the officials and middlemen tried to hide and even thrown illegal money out of the windows.

But, the lok ayukta sleuths did not let them escape.
