Tourists who are arriving in Mysore much before the grand Dasara celebration may feast their eyes on Gaganachukki waterfalls even at night as lighting arrangements have been made around it.

The tourism department and Kannada and culture department have decided to install lights around the waterfall. Malavalli MLA PM Nanjundaswamy told DNA that right now, the waterfall is in its full splendour because of the recent rain.

He said, however, they are not sure if the waterfall would have as much water till Dasara.

The Jalapatotsava (waterfall festival) is expected to draw huge crowds from Mysore and Bangalore on Sunday and throughout the next week.

Mural on walls a la Bangalore
The City of Palaces has to get ready for its biggest event of the year, Dasara, in less than 15 days but many government buildings are still in need of facelift. This year, the government has decided to deck up building walls with culture-related murals.

As this is a huge task, an army of artists well versed in painting murals have been called to the city from every part of the district and even from neighbouring districts.

According to an official in charge of the work, walls of Sanskrit College, Gun House, KR Hospital, Rangacharlu Memorial Town Hall and other government buildings will be given the “cultural touch”.

The official said in 2010, the work had began late and the walls of only the Mysore Zoo could be painted.

This time, the artists have come in good numbers and well in advance and the city will be full of murals depicting folk, music and dance from the different parts of the state.

The Mysore City Corporation, which has taken up this work as a part of its commitment to make Dasara a memorable experience for the tourists, has given a long list of buildings that will be adorned with the murals. Commissioner of the city corporation, KS Raikar, said the artists had been asked to complete their work before September 18.
