The Jan Chetna Yatra of BJP patriarch LK Advani has been dubbed as a “political stunt” by Union minister for corporate affairs M Veerappa Moily. Interacting with journalists in Mangalore on Sunday, Moily said: “Advani has ceased to be a leader of the BJP as his words carry no respect in the party anymore. The classic example is in Karnataka, where the BJP is in disarray. Five MLAs and ministers were in the line to go to jail for improprieties, while a former chief minister and top members of the cabinet were either in the jail or out on bail.”

“Why didn’t Advani evict them from the party? What is the use of leaders who cannot keep their party in control? He had threatened that when the yatra reached Delhi, he would give a clarion call that would have a shattering effect on the Congress. But Advani has lost the moral courage or conviction to give calls to any other party. He should try to set his house in order first,” added Moily.

On Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati’s proposal to divide the state into four, Moily said it is an election stunt. “Legally, nobody can divide a state unless it has been discussed in the National Development Council. This proposal has not been considered by the council in the past,” he said.
