The state Congress leaders are an angry lot. They are disappointed with the Union ministers from Karnataka for having failed to convince the party national leaders into imposing president’s rule in the state. However, the state Congress leaders are in no mood to relent as they have decided to continue their fight to dislodge BS Yeddyurappa government on their own now.

A senior Congress leader said, “Union ministers SM Krishna, Mallikarjuna Kharge, KH Muniyappa and M Veerappa Moily totally failed to support the views of the state Congress leaders. Krishna, who ruled the state, had no time to even meet the state Congress leaders. Moily and Kharge were half-hearted in their support to the state Congress leaders who had gone to meet them. Union minister for railways KH Muniyappa also refrained from supporting the state Congress.”

“The reason for these four Union ministers not supporting the state Congress leaders is very simple. Most of these leaders are now ensconced in seats of power at the Centre and are not ready to come to the state, if assembly is dissolved and elections are held. They have no capacity to garner votes in case they fail and lose their position. Calculating all this, the state leaders did not raise their voice to convince the party high command for imposing Article 356 in the state,” he said.

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah said, “We are upset with the Union government’s decision to reject the governor’s report, but our fight against Yeddyurappa will continue. We will base our fight on illegal mining, de-notification, nepotism, favouritism, land scams and other issues. We will hold a meeting along with KPCC chief and chalk out our future plans.”

“The Supreme Court order proved that the speaker colluded with the chief minister to save the BJP government. We will raise this issue in the upcoming legislative session and demand the resignation of the speaker and the CM,” he added.

Supporting Siddaramaiah, KPCC president G Parameshwar said, “We are upset but being the opposition, we will continue our protest in and out of the Vidhana Soudha against this corrupt government.”
