Lawmakers to go to school on July 5

Primary and secondary education minister Visveshwara Hegde Kageri has appealed to all elected representatives from gram panchayat members to the chief minister to visit any of the state-run schools on July 5.

But their duty would not end with a flying visit. Instead, they should spend at least three hours in talks with school authorities.
"The representatives should sit with school authorities and discuss academic activities. If they have any plans, the same can be communicated to school authorities. This way, people's representatives can also know the status and needs of the particular school," said Kageri.

This activity will help the authorities to involve elected representatives in school activities. "There is no specification about which school they should visit. They can visit any of the schools which they wish to visit. If they want a list, department officials will get it for them," he said.

Kageri has already spoken to chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and the latter has agreed to be at one of the government schools. The department will send letters to all elected representatives regarding this.

"We have selected July 5 because by that time, all admissions process will be over and that is the time when students will be involved in class room activities," said Kageri. "Even the chief minister agreed and appreciated the programme. He will be at one of the government schools and I will accompany him," he said.
