A social worker and ex-councillor of Gangondanahalli, has alleged that he had been cheated by a land mafia, which is allegedly supported by an ex-corporator.

The complainant, MK Mehboob Qureshi, a resident of Gangondanahalli, had allegedly bought two sites measuring about 100x200 from Papamma and Sebastian, 30 years ago.

“Even before I could register the sites, both of them passed away and later I was put into physical possession of the two acres and four guntas land. As the proceedings by the BBMP were still going on, I came in touch with Pyarejan alias Metro Pyarejan, a local resident who agreed to help me avail the revenue records,” Qureshi alleged to the police.

He said that with the instigation of ex-corporator D Muniraju, he and Pyarejan came to an agreement where the latter promised to complete the proceedings before the BBMP for all the revenue records. Pyarejan also agreed to obtain the electricity and water connections and if he does not succeed, he agreed to hand over the original documents.

Unfortunately for Qureshi, Pyarejan passed away and the originals remained with him. Though the site now has water and electricity connections, the proceedings are still on and hence the agreement was cancelled.

“After Pyarejan, his son Zaheer Ahmed is refusing to return the original documents. On further investigation, I came to know that Pyarejan and Muniraju were dealing with a number of land grabbing cases. They have availed such documents from many people and grabbed their lands,” Qureshi alleged.

In the meantime, the sitting corporator Umesh Shetty, allegedly promised to help Qureshi  avail the revenue records who however, refused the offer. “Now the duo (Ahmed and Muniraju) is threatening me with dire consequences, if I register any complaint,” Qureshi said.

However, Shetty claimed that he does not remember offering any help to anyone and that he was hearing Qureshi’s name for the first time. “He might have brought the matter to me in a public meeting. But I am not aware of it personally. Also, since it is a civil case, there is very little I could have done in this issue,” Shetty said.

Additional commissioner (law and order) Suneel Kumar, who received the complaint, had forwarded the same to the Chandra Layout police. Ramanjaneya Reddy, inspector of the station said, “We have received the complaint and it’s a land dispute. The complainant has accused an ex-corporator in this. We are investigating.”
