A lady doctor was killed and her husband, also a doctor, injured when the car they were travelling rammed a roadside tree near Bidadi’s Green City on Mysore Road on Tuesday.

The doctor couple was heading towards Mandya to perform an emergency surgery when the mishap happened around 3.30 pm.
Police said Dr Savitha (30) of Global Hospital in Vijayanagar, died on the spot, while her husband Dr Vijaya Kumar (35) was admitted to BGS Global Hospital in Kengeri with head injuries. The couple was residing in Deepanjalinagar.

Witnesses said the car, driven by Dr Kumar, apparently lost control while giving way to another vehicle. The car skidded before hitting the tree. Dr Savitha was caught in the damaged car.  Local residents, who had gathered at the spot, pulled Dr Kumar out of the car and rushed him to a private hospital, from where he was later shifted to the hospital in Kengeri. Police said he was out of danger.

A police team deputed to the NICE Road in the wake of a farmers’ protest was rushed to the accident spot. “By the time we reached the scene, Dr Savitha had died,” Hemanth, sub-inspector of police, Ramanagaram, said. The sub-inspector expressed suspicion that the doctor couple was in a hurry to reach Mandya, due to which Dr Kumar might have lost control over the vehicle.
