The association published a list of such sellers. those who sell CDs and DVDs legally in the city. It was handed over to the police and it become helpful for them to trace illegal sellers.

Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy president Tara said: “We are happy that the chief minister reacted positively when we met him. He promised that he will write a letter to the president to give us an appointment to make a request to bring anti-piracy rules under the Goonda Act.”

“Though there have been raids to recover pirated CDs in the city, only a few cases have been filed against those who sell these CDs. Even if they are punished, they can come out on bail and continue their activities,” Chandrashekar said. “We want them to be booked under the Goonda Act so that they cannot come out on bail for at least two months. We are planning to meet the president in 10 days and hand over a request to bring anti-piracy rules under the Goonda Act,” he said.

Joint commissioner of police (crime) B Dayanand said: “City police do not have a separate squad to deal with piracy related cases. In Tamil Nadu, those who sell pirated CDs are booked under the Goonda Act.”

“We were shocked to see CDs of ‘Anna Bond’ which was released recently. Sandalwood is losing Rs100 crore a year due to piracy, Tara said.
