The state government, which was indecisive over allocating land to the NCC Directorate of Karnataka and Goa to set up NCC Nagars, has finally decided to part with a portion of land in Bangalore for the project.

NCC officials said the government had zeroed in on two locations in the city for the NCC Nagars, the integrated facilities where cadets are imparted advanced training.

"The demand was long pending due to non-availability of land in Bangalore. The government had asked us to choose land anywhere, but we were keen on Bangalore as the directorate headquarters is located here," said an officer.

When asked, newly-appointed deputy director general of NCC Directorate Karnataka and Goa, Air Cmde SS Deshpande refused to disclose the locations. "We will be able to finalise the location in a couple of months," he said.

"Currently, 70 % of the NCC offices in Karnataka are located on rented buildings. By operating out of our own premises, we would be able to cut this expenditure," said an officer.

The directorate would also raise new units in North Bangalore, Chitradurga, Haveri, Ramnagar, Chikaballapur, Koppal and Mandya.
