Of 10,500 candidates who registered for the Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT), 9,660 students took up the test conducted by the Karnataka Private postgraduate Colleges’ Association.

The test was conducted for the admission to management seat quotas for MBA and MCA courses, said Dr M Prakash, secretary, Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association (KPPGCA).

About 50 % of those who took the exam were outstation candidates. “There wee no hassles in any of the exam centres, and the response from students was that the papers were easy,” he added.

This year, there were 900 spot registrations as compared to 1,200 students last year.

This year, 8000 MBA seats and 4000 MCA seats form 50 % of the total number of postgraduate seats in Karnataka. The remaining 50 % is reserved for the PGCET.

The exam was held at 14 centres, of which four were in Bangalore. It was held at Al-Ameen Institute of Management Studies, City College, Community Institute of Management Studies, and Seshadripuram First Grade College.

The test centres in the state included Bagalkot, Bangalore, Belgaum, Bellary, Bijapur, Davangere, Gulbarga, Hubli, Mangalore, Mysore, Shimoga, Udupi, and Tumkur.

The association has 99 colleges as members participating in the KMAT 2011. Applications were made available online and at all colleges from May 1.

The results will be announced on August 2 on www.kmatindia.com.
