The state government on Saturday transferred additional director general of police (ADGP) of lok ayukta, Rupak Kumar Datta. Datta has been a key player in the lok ayukta’s fight against corruption and is considered lok ayukta Justice Santosh Hegde’s trusted lieutenant. He will now assume charge as ADGP (law and order).

Justice Hegde said he had discussed the issue with Datta and suggested that the latter take charge if he gets a post that would satisfy him professionally. Justice Hegde said the present deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of lok ayukta, Pranab Kumar Mohanty, will lead the lok ayukta police wing.

“I will not interfere with the new posting of the police in lok ayukta. That is not fair as my tenure ends in the next three months,” he said.

Apart from Datta, the government has transferred six IPS officers and four IAS officers.
