Staying away from the legislature session, JD(S) members led by HD Revanna marched to Raj Bhavan on Monday to make one last forceful plea for governor HR Bhardwaj to act against chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.

With legislature session ending abruptly without any debate on the alleged land scams, the fight has again spilled over to the streets.

Congress too will follow suit within a day or two to Raj Bhavan with a similar demand, but with a renewed vigour, thanks to two advocates, Sirajin Basha and KN Balraj who have sought the governor’s permission to prosecute Yeddyurappa for the alleged land scams.

The move from the two lawyers could not come at a better time for the opposition, as so far governor HR Bharadwaj had preferred to tread cautiously fearing adverse political repercussions should he recommend any tough action against the state government.

KPCC president G Parameshwar’s visit to Delhi is being seen as part of a concerted move to force the governor to act fast. “The governor should immediately act to impose president’s rule in the state. The state government should be dismissed as it has no moral right to continue after chief minister Yeddyurappa is found involved in nepotism and corruption in allotment and denotification of lands. The governor should immediately give sanction for prosecution of the chief minister,” Revanna said after meeting the governor.

Sources said Raj Bhavan has already sought documents pertaining to denotification of lands and allotment of sites under chief minister’s discretionary quota.

They also said that it is this request from Raj Bhavan that has forced the BJP to re-launch its ‘Oust the Governor’ campaign. It may be recalled that the chief minister had, on the eve of New Year, assured that he and his party leaders would bury the past and open a new chapter of cordial relations with the governor. But BJP MP DB Chandre Gowda broke the promise when declared he would meet the President to demand immediate recall of the governor.

Though governor’s sanction for prosecution of the chief minister does not make it mandatory for Yeddyurappa to step down, the political dynamics within BJP would make it almost impossible for him to continue when the party is trying to regain its moral high ground in its fight against corruption.
