Karnataka governor HR Bhardwaj continued to spit fire at chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, questioning him on Friday as to why he was reluctant to order a CBI probe against illegal mining in the state.

Venting his ire at Yeddyurappa who had denied receiving any letters from the governor on Thursday, Bhardwaj said, “The chief minister should reply to both my letters written on Thursday. He should reply immediately after returning to Bangalore.”

Bhardwaj said that in the letters he had asked Yeddyruppa to send a detailed report on the land scams allegedly involving his (chief minister’s) family members and also what action had been taken to stop illegal mining, with specific reference to the Reddy brothers in Bellary.

Bhardwaj further said that the chief minister would turn a blind eye to corruption in the government. Pointing to the Andhra Pradesh government’s move to order CBI probe into illegal mining, Bhardwaj asked why the BJP government was against similar action in the state. “What action has been taken against the Reddys?” he asked.

He denied allegations that he had been acting under the directions of the UPA government at the Centre. “I am not seeking any explanations on directions from the Centre. It is my duty to seek clarifications when things are not going in right direction,” he said.

As the governor intensified the offensive, the chief minister said that he would reply to his letters in two days. “I have high respect for the governor and the Lokayukta. Whenever they have raised some issues with me, I have been sending replies,” Yeddyurappa said.
