The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has filed several complaints against some Kannada film producers for sticking movie posters in public places. However, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) wasn’t intimidated one bit and continued with its poster-sticking campaign. The chamber justified its action, saying until the Palike provides them the billboards it had requested, it will continue pasting posters in public places.

On Thursday, KFCC president Basant Kumar Patil and other members met BBMP mayor Sharadamma and deputy mayor S Harish and demanded 1,000 billboards to display film posters. Sharadamma, however, gave approval only for 80 boards.
She also directed the film chamber to protect the city’s aesthetics and cleanliness by desisting from sticking posters in public places. Patil assured that the Kannada film industry would abide by the Palike’s rules.

On the same day, however, the BBMP, registered complaints against 11 Kannada movie producers — Lingegowda (Hori), Shilpa Ganesh (Cool), MH Sunil (Dhool), Shankar Gowda (Kempe Gowda), Jayanna (Johnny), Parvatamma Rajkumar (Hudugaru), Ramya (Sanju Weds Geetha), HM Krishnamurthy (Devadas) and Rakshitha Prem (Jogayya) — for violating the Karnataka Open Place (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981, and for sticking posters illegally in Gandhinagar.

Patil said that the film industry would continue sticking posters in public until the BBMP provides them with alternatives. “We demanded 1,000 billboards. The BBMP agreed to provide space and assured to provide 80 billboards within a week. The film industry will not put up posters in public places where the BBMP provides billboards. But where there are no billboards provided, we have no option but to paste posters in public places,” he said.

“Earlier, the BBMP filed several complaints against producers, but all cases were dropped and no action was taken. This time, there was a communication gap between the KFCC and the BBMP, and they have complained against 11 film producers. I will discuss the issue with the BBMP and sort it out,” he said.
Deputy mayor Harish had directed the BBMP legal cell officers to provide details on the film producers it has filed cases against. “Our legal cell officers will take action on them. The cell has failed to follow up the cases the BBMP had filed against producers,” he said.
