Janata Dal (S) leader HD Kumarswamy, who has become the rallying point for dissident BJP MLAs and independents in Karnataka, today said there were no plans to form an alternative government with Congress in Karnataka.

With only 27 MLAs (one JD-S MLA is believed to be in the BJP camp), it would be "childish and immature" if JD-S was to think of forming an alternative government, he said hours after BS Yeddyurappa government won the vote of confidence by a voice-vote and Governor HR Bhardwaj recommended imposition of president's rule in the state.

Without naming Congress, which has a strength of 73 in the 224-member Assembly (reduced to 208 after the disqualification of 16 MLAs), he said "if the party, which is in a position to do so, takes the initiative in this regard, JD-S senior leaders would take a view."

Asked again if it would form a government with Congress, Kumaraswamy, the president of the state unit of JD-S and former Chief Minister, said "the question is not before us. There is no proposal."
