Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s questioning by the special court, which is hearing a case of Rs66-crore disproportionate asset against her, ended on Wednesday. The court will now question the other co-accused.

Jayalalithaa has made four appearances before special court judge BM Mallikarjunaiah to answer 1,339 questions. She answered the remaining 192 questions on Wednesday.

The questioning of the other co-accused will not be held at Parappana Agrahara, but at the special court located in the city civil courts complex. The next hearing is on November 29. The court will begin questioning the second accused and Jayalalithaa’s friend Sasikala, followed by the other two accused Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi.

Case ‘politically motivated’
Jayalalithaa, on Wednesday, also filed a statement alleging that the case was “false and politically motivated.” Special public prosecutor Dr BV Acharya said that in her statement, Jayalalithaa said “the entire case is fabricated at the instance of her political rival, the DMK, which was in power in 1997 in Tamil Nadu.”

Jayalalithaa alleged that the disproportionate asset case filed by Dr Subramanian Swamy was ‘false’. Jayalalithaa alleged that the searches conducted by the police at her house and properties were “illegal” as the Madras high court granted permission to search only her residence.

Jayalalithaa said that sarees, wristwatches and footwear seized from her house were ‘mementos’ she received during her long film career. Jayalalithaa said she acted in more than 120 films and wore many expensive sarees, wristwatches, footwear and costumes. They were not used later and remained in her possession.

She alleged that N Naidu, the investigation officer, was supposed to investigate only allegations made by Swamy, but he overstepped his mandate. Also, B Kumar, Jayalalithaa’s counsel, said the case was engineered by her political rivals.
Kumar alleged that the then ministers in the DMK government, Madhavan and A Veeraswami, had “directed” the police.

‘Rahman performed for free’
Jayalalithaa said she did not pay music director AR Rahman for his performance during her foster son Sudhakaran’s marriage.
Jayalalithaa clarified that during her previous tenure as chief minister, she did not buy any property, except a house in Chennai.
