Former chief minister and state Janata Dal (Secular) president HD Kumaraswamy is disappointed by the Karnataka high court verdict upholding speaker KG Bopaiah’s order disqualifying 11 BJP rebel MLAs, but he is not disheartened. The fight against the BS Yeddyurappa-led BJP government would continue and it would not be restricted to legal fora, he said.

“We will challenge the high court order in the Supreme Court by filing the petition on Monday. The legal battle will go on. But that is just one aspect of our fight against the Yeddyurappa government.

Yeddyurappa’s regime is the most corrupt the state has seen till date and I will not rest till it is thrown out,” Kumaraswamy said reacting to the high court order.

The Janata Dal (Secular) has decided to intensify his campaign to expose the alleged misdeeds of Yeddyurappa government. “Just wait and watch. I will expose more scams of the chief minister.

The series will begin in two days and people of the state will come to know the true colours of Yeddyurappa,” he said.

Kumaraswamy termed the newly-launched programme to distribute saris for women belonging to below poverty line families as the latest scam of Yeddyurappa. The programme was being implemented with an eye on the forthcoming taluk and zila panchayat polls. Orders for supplying the saris had been placed with a Surat-based company as it involved huge kickbacks. “The state government could have got the saris supplied from the state handloom development corporation if it was genuinely interested in the welfare of our people,” he said.

Regarding the disqualified MLAs, Kumaraswamy declared that he would continue to lead their fight. The disqualified MLAs would remain united. The verdict was a temporary setback and the scenario could change very soon. Anything could happen in politics, he said.

Responding to the verdict, Belur Gopalakrishna, one of the disqualified MLAs, expressed the confidence that the Supreme Court would deliver justice for the 11 MLAs. “The high court verdict curtails the freedom of an MLA to question the style of functioning of the chief minister even if the latter is indulging in corrupt deeds. Democracy has no meaning in such a system,” he said.
