The concept of praying to goddess Saraswati once a week is rare now even at school level. But Bangalore University has decided to bring back that culture to its campus.

The university authorities have now decided to build the idol of Goddess Saraswati at the Central College campus. “We are planning to construct the idol in front of Jnana Jyothi auditorium.  There is already one such idol at the Jnana Bharathi campus,” said N Prabhu Dev, BU vice-chancellor. The Saraswati idol will be inaugurated by governor HR Bhardwaj on April 2.

To bring all the faculty members and staff of the university together at least once in a month, the varsity has decided to organise cultural activities at the Jnana Jyothi auditorium.

“Every second Saturday, we will invite one college and request them to perform cultural activities. The auditorium for this purpose will be free of cost,” Dev said.

The university is also planning on felicitating life-time achievers every second Saturday. A committee will be constituted to find the achievers.

“There is a need for interpersonal relationships within the university and through this cultural programme we wanted to bring that,” Dev said.
