The stage is set for the ruling BJP’s first of the four mega rallies. Davangere has been decked up for the first rally on Monday being organised as a show of strength to counter the Congress padayatra to Bellary.

Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, state party president KS Eshwarappa and the Reddy brothers are scheduled to participate in the rally which would be followed by similar rallies in Mysore, Gulbarga and Bellary in the coming days.

Meanwhile, tourism minister G Janardhana Reddy cut short his ‘Swabhimana Yatra’ in Bellary with health minister B Sriramulu and met Eshwarappa in Bangalore on Sunday to clear the air about the party’s stand on Swabhimana Yatra.

Emerging out of the meeting, Eshwarappa said that Sriramulu’s padayatra had the backing of the party and there were no differences in the party over the issue. Janardhana Reddy reiterated that there was no question of challenging the leadership of Yeddyurappa and he was just an obedient party worker.

However, he came down heavily against excise minister MP Renukacharya who was in the Reddy camp till he was made a minister and now sounding critical of Reddy’s moves. “There are people who denounce the god after getting a boon. Renukacharya belongs to such a category,” he said.
