The elders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are at the three-day Akhil Bharat Prathinidhi Sabha (ABPS) meeting in this town of areca farmers. The biggest concern that the meeting is attempting to address is corruption. The conclusions arrived are likely to have a bearing on the BJP-ruled states.

The Pramukh of the RSS, Manmohan Vaidya, said, “In the RSS, we are not concerned with party politics. Our concern is corruption, and we see no reason whatsoever to shield corrupt individuals or corrupt systems.” Talking of the ABPS, Vaidya said, “We are an apex policy-making body of the RSS, comprising leaders, thinkers and scholars within the RSS. We are engaged in drafting a resolution to end corruption at this three-day session.”

Asked about the many charges of corruption against leaders of the BJP government in Karnataka, Vaidya said, “The ABPS and the RSS do not discriminate against individuals charged with corruption in public office. It is, however, the stance of the RSS that the principles of law should be given time to fructify, and the process of law should take its course before the conclusion is drawn that a person or group is corrupt.”
In response to a question on Hindu terrorism, Vaidya said, “Terrorism is detrimental to society. The RSS will not support any person who uses terror,” said Vaidya.

Asked of RSS leader Indresh Kumar, whose involvement in the Mecca Masjid blast case is being investigated by the CBI, Vaidya said, “In this case, the trial began before the chargesheet was issued. We should allow the law to prevail. If the final verdict declares him guilty, that would be the time to talk about it.”

The ABPS session is being attended by 1,100 RSS leaders from across the country. Special invitees from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad include Praveen Togadia and Ashok Singhal. Nitin Gadkari, national president of the BJP, visited the venue, Vivekananda College, Puttur, on Tuesday.
