The future of the environment is our responsibility and Generation Z is becoming increasingly conscious in their efforts to preserve our surroundings.

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has announced it would be planting close to 1 crore seedlings in industrial areas as part of its initiative for this year's World Environment Day.

Hot on its heels are corporate houses doing their part for the Garden City.

Insurance firm Bharti AXA GI, for instance, is making a conscious effort to inculcate an environmentally friendly atmosphere at its workplace for employees. On World Environment Day on June 5, the company will follow a 'No print' policy, wherein the entire office will not print any material. This initiative is aimed at educating employees to not waste paper, with the ultimate goal of reduction in felling of trees.

The insurance firms will also observe Earth Hour by cutting off power supply for an hour on June 6, along with raised temperatures on the premises, in accordance to the World Wildlife Fund guidance.

Based on the employee feedback, the company would retain this temperature throughout the year, thereby reducing its carbon footprint.

In keeping with this year's theme for World Environment Day, 'Forests: Nature at Your Service,' The Royal Orchid Hotels Pvt Ltd is planning on having their long-staying guests plant five neem trees each in the city, alongside which the hotel chain will also sell saplings to guests, priced at `500. These proceeds will go to Bangalore Green Warriors, an NGO that works on keeping the city green and eco-friendly.

Malls attract maximum crowds, thereby getting the message across to a greater section of society. Mantri Square Mall, one of city's largest mall, has taken the initiative to encourage people to do away with the use of plastic bags and opt for a more eco-friendly cloth bag, The Mantri Square Earth Bag.

Available off the shelves for `10, the proceeds from the sales of the Earth Bag are going to be donated to Child Rights and You.
For World Environment Day, the mall will host NGO kiosks from June 3 to June 5 that promote environmentally friendly products, such as Saahas, which advocates the concept 'Less Plastic for Me'.

Saahas will be selling their eco-friendly products like handmade paper envelopes, pens, pencils, and scribble pads.
