After the ruling BJP led a delegation to New Delhi to present its stand against the imposition of president’s rule in Karnataka, it is now the turn of the opposition Congress to go before the prime minister and make out a case for accepting governor HR Bhardwaj’s recommendation and imposing central rule in the state.

A Congress legislative party meeting held on Thursday evening decided to take a delegation of 10 senior party leaders to Delhi on Friday to pressure the party high command and the prime minister to dismiss the BJP government and impose president’s rule in the state.

Addressing the media later, leader of the opposition in the legislative assembly Siddaramaiah said: “The BJP is unnecessarily blaming governor HR Bhardwaj and creating confusion in the minds of the people and misleading the Union government. We have therefore decided to apprise the Centre of the ground realities in the state by taking a delegation to Delhi.”

“The BJP went to Delhi to show its strength and demand the recall of governor Bhardwaj for recommending invoking of Article 356 in the state. But what the governor said about the breakdown in the state was 100% true. There is definitely a constitutional crisis in the state. We will explain the exact position in the state and we will also apprise the Centre of the illegalities committed by the Yeddyurappa government like the corruption, denotification and land scams, nepotism, favouritism and other issues. We will argue that the state is now a fit case for imposition of president’s rule,” Siddaramaiah said.

On the reported mass resignation threat from Congress MLAs, he said: “No decision has been taken on Congress MLAs tendering en masse resignation. It came up for discussion and but no decision was taken. First, we will lead a delegation to Delhi and after that we will see. The Congress fight against this corrupt government will continue.”

In the morning, the opposition Congress staged a protest rally in front of Mahatama Gandhi statue on MG Road demanding the Centre to act positively on governor H Bhardwaj’s recommendation to impose president’s rule in the state.

Legislators and party members raised slogans against BS Yeddyurappa’s government and hailed the governor’s move.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G Parameshwara and leader of the opposition in the assembly Siddaramaiah demanded the resignation of speaker KG Bopaiah and Yeddyurappa, saying that they had no constitutional right to continue in office.

“Yeddyurappa has remained in office unconstitutionally for seven months now. He used the office of the speaker and got 16 MLAs disqualified to win the vote of confidence last year,” he alleged.
