Union minister for external affairs, SM Krishna, was in combative mood on Sunday as he chaired the meeting of Congress leaders from various districts coming under the Bangalore division to chart out the plan to bring Congress back to power in the next assembly elections.

Sensing an early election to the state assembly, the Congress high command has assigned Union ministers SM Krishna, KH Muniyappa, Veerappa Moily and Mallikarjuna Kharge the task of leading the campaign and strengthening the party in one division each.

Krishna, who chaired a meeting of Congress legislators, former ministers and block-level leaders from various districts coming under the Bangalore division, exhorted the participants to reach out to the people to explain the alleged bad governance of the BJP government, the porngate scam, land scams, failure in taking up drought relief works and neglect of development works.

According to sources, Krishna also wanted Congress workers to spread awareness among the people about funds being granted by the UPA government at the Centre for various development projects in the state and the alleged non-utilisation of them by the BJP government in the state.

“Comparative picture of the achievements of previous Congress governments in the state against the present BJP government should also be presented for the people,” he added.

Krishna stressed the need for burying the differences among Congress leaders and working unitedly. The local leadership should identify good, potential candidates for all the assembly constituencies.

He said every party worker should take a pledge to ensure the victory of these candidates. Youth should be encouraged to join the party in large numbers while retaining the party’s traditional voter base, Krishna said.

Later in the day, Union minister of state for railways KH Muniyappa chaired a meeting of Congress leaders and workers from Mysore division. Leader of the opposition in the legislative assembly, Siddaramaiah, his council counterpart, Motamma, and others participate in it.

Rally on Feb 25
Congress has decided to organise Bangalore-division level public rally in the city on February 25 as part of its plans to revitalise the party. It also wants to send a clear message to the BJP that the people are disillusioned with their government and that they are eager for a change in the state.
