Congress banks on women power in Udupi

There are more women voters in Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha Constituency and they can swing any party’s fortunes. There are 12.45 lakh voters, of which 6.38 lakh are women. The recent porngate scandal and the Hartal Halappa episode have embarrassed the BJP and the Congress will aim to capitalise on these factors.

“We are going to highlight incidents where BJP legislators, including Haratal Halappa and MP Renukacharya, were involved in crime against women. The rave party at St. Mary’s island has upset women too,” said Veronica Carnelio, president of Udupi Women’s Congress.

“We will expose the respect the BJP has towards womenfolk to every woman voter in the constituency. I am sure my sisters will agree that the BJP is a party of people with questionable antecedents when it comes to women’s welfare,” she added.
