The Congress and JD(S) have queered the pitch against chief minister BS Yeddyurappa in the light of a special court’s order sanctioning a lok ayukta police inquiry into the alleged land scam in Rachenahalli.

The Congress on Saturday staged a protest against the government and demanded that Yeddyurappa resigns.

Addressing the gathering in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue, state Congress president G Parameshwar said Yeddyurappa had lost the moral right to continue as the chief minister since as he was facing a series of corruption and nepotism charges.

Accusing the BJP’s national leaders of exhibiting double standards where corruption was concerned, Parameshwar wondered how Yeddyurappa was being allowed to continue as chief minister.

Referring to direction of the Lokayukta special court to hold an inquiry into the series of corruption charges made against the chief minister, Parameshwar said: “If the chief minister has any sense of morality, he should quit from the office to allow conducting a fair and free probe by the police.”

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah said: “He should have resigned when governor HR Bhardwaj gave consent to prosecute the CM. Still, he is sticking to the chair (sic), I have never seen such a shameless chief minister.”

“After the Lokayukta completes its inquiry and if they arrest Yeddyurappa, even then, he will not leave the chair.
People will teach him a lesson in the coming elections,” he added.

Meanwhile, JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy said he
has more ammunition against Yeddyurappa and he would unleash them at an appropriate time.

“I have revealed only 20% of scams. I have documents of the other 80% of scams committed by Yeddyurappa and his cabinet. But it’s very unfortunate that the BJP high command is not ready to sack such a corrupt chief minister. The BJP has no moral right to speak about scams committed by the UPA government. If it is genuinely fighting against corruption, first, it should remove Yeddyurappa,” he said.
