Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday said the CID would probe the allegations that efforts were made to denotify 800 acres of land identified for BDA’s proposed residential layout.

The controversy surrounds the land that was identified to form Shivarama Karanth Layout. Gowda’s announcement came when JD(S) leader HD Revanna sought to move an adjournment motion in this regard in the assembly. While the speaker KG Bopaiah disallowed the request, the chief minister said a probe would be held to ensure transparency.

Gowda said the question of denotifying the land did not arise as, in the first place, land had not been acquired yet for the layout.
He said any illegality or irregularity would not be allowed in the land acquisition process. He said this was a serious issue and the government would ensure transparency so that there was no confusion about the transactions.

While raising the issue, Revanna said the BDA had identified 3,546 acres of land spread across 17 villages for the layout. He said efforts were on to denotify 800 acres of land without bringing it to the notice of the state government. He said land mafia was the culprit.

The chief minister said the CID probe would bring out details about all the developments that have taken place regarding the layout. Notification to form Shivarama Karanth Layout was issued in 2008.

Complaint against CP Yogeshwar
Further, Gowda rejected the demand to act against forest minister CP Yogeshwar on the basis of a complaint filed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (Nice). The company has accused Yogeshwar of cheating it of Rs2 crore that the company had paid him in 2005.

The chief minister said the complaint was politically motivated. He said the Congress's DK Shivakumar, Yogeshwar's nemesis, was behind the plaint.
