CBI has examined a retired IAS officer as part of its probe into the alleged illegal mining and irregularities in allotment of the leases to Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), a senior official said on Wednesday.

"K Prabhakar Reddy, who was a CMO official during the tenure of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, was examined yesterday as a witness and his statements have been recorded," CBI Joint Director (Hyderabad Zone) VV Laksmi Narayana told reporters here.

Reddy looked after the subject of mines in CMO and retired from service in 2009.

The central agency on September 5 had arrested OMC owner and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law in the illegal mining case and later arrested VD Rajagopal, former Director (Mines) and then vice-chairman (incharge) and Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation, who all are presently under judicial custody.

Some private miners also appeared in the CBI office in Koti area in Hyderabad in connection with  OMC "scam" and recorded their statements.

Meanwhile, reacting to a query on the Andhra Pradesh High Court's directive to CBI and other agencies to investigate into the assets of former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the CBI official said they were yet to receive the copies from the court.

"After the copies (running over 20,000 documents) are received, a preliminary inquiry will be launched," Laksmi Narayana said.

Andhra Pradesh High Court had on November 14 directed the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) to conduct an investigation into the assets of the TDP chief.

The court gave these orders on a petition filed by YSR Congress honorary president and Pulivendula MLA YS Vijayamma, wife of late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

The ED Tuesday asked Naidu and other respondents (in the Vijayamma petition) to furnish details about their investments and financial transactions.
