With a huge water crisis looming over the city, the state government has asked the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) not to sanction any new building plans for multi-storey apartments and complexes, unless the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) issues a no-objection certificate.

This was disclosed by BWSSB minister Katta Subramanya Naidu.

The BWSSB would issue NOCs only if the plot owners make their own arrangements for water supply like drilling borewells and implement rain water harvesting, Katta told mediapersons here on Wednesday.

The move comes close on the heels of the BWSSB deciding not to give any new water connections to multi-storey apartments and complexes.

Katta, however, made it clear that the BWSSB would indeed provide water connections to single unit residence buildings. The BWSSB has currently stopped issuing NOCs.

Helpline from August 1
Meanwhile, the BWSSB’s 24X7 helpline to address public grievances related to water and sewage problems will begin functioning from August 1. The board is planning to expand its current network of service stations.

Currently there are 104 service stations and there would soon be 198 service stations, one in each ward. The public can call the helpline to file complaints and also seek information on implementing rainwater harvesting.
