In a major relief to former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, the high court on Monday granted him anticipatory bail in the fifth and the last corruption case filed by advocate Sirajin Basha in the Lok Ayukta court alleging his involvement in illegal land denotification.

The case pertained to illegal allotment of a site in HSR Layout to RP Shankar, the maternal uncle of Yeddyurappa’s son-in-law, Sohan Kumar. The site was subsequently transferred by Shankar to Kumar. Basha had alleged this resulted in a loss of Rs1.92 crore to the exchequer for a pecuniary gain of Rs1.87 crore to Yeddyurappa’s family.

Justice H Billappa granted bail to Yeddyurappa and his kin on the condition that he should furnish a bond for Rs2 lakh with two sureties each.

The judge also imposed other conditions that the petitioners should not contact or influence the witnesses. They should attend the court regularly. If they fail, they should furnish valid reasons.

They should not leave the country without the permission of the Lok Ayukta court. In any of these conditions are violated, they should approach the court for the cancellation of the bail. On November 4, the court granted Yeddyurappa bail. He had moved the high court seeking anticipatory bail apprehending arrest in the three of the remaining complaints filed against him by Basha.

His sons, BY Raghavendra and BY Vijayendra, and Sohan Kumar, too, had filed petitions seeking anticipatory bail. Basha had filed five private complaints under sections 190 and 200 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc) against Yeddyurappa and his family in the lower court. The five complaints comprise 15 instances of corruption and illegal land deal.
